For 25 years, Casa 0101 Theater has been more than a stage, it’s been a cultural anchor for Boyle Heights, a neighborhood at the crossroads of systemic inequity, gentrification, and resilience. Founded by Josefina López, author of Real Women Have Curves, this small but mighty theater has become a sacred space where community stories, immigrant voices, and underrepresented dreams have taken center stage. The film follows three deeply personal, interwoven journeys: Josefina’s unwavering mission to elevate Latine stories, LGBTQ+ director Abel Alvarado’s fight for authentic expression, and shy middle schooler Katherine Moreno’s discovery of her voice through theater.
